Matt Copham

Born in South Africa in 1977, and after having an early exposure to nature, I realized that this was where my passion lied. I completed my first game ranger course at the age of sixteen, the start of my career as a guide. From then on my school holidays were spent volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center close to the Kruger National Park. Here I was privileged to have had close contact with many birds of prey, rehabilitating and releasing them back into the wild.

After school I attained a diploma in game ranging and lodge management which set up my theoretical backdrop for entering the then quickly developing eco-tourism industry. At the age of 19 I was employed full time as a guide in the Greater Kruger National Park, moving between the Manyeleti, Sabi Sands and Thornybush game reserves. Here I remained for six years gaining invaluable experience for my future as a professional guide

Then my dream came true - I had opportunity to venture off to Botswana, a land that had been calling me for many years. I have been privileged enough to be living up here now for the past five seasons, traveling around the camps extensively. From the heart of the Okavango, through its veins, and up north towards where the Linyanti flows, eventually seeping quietly into the sands of the greater Kalahari. There is no better place to experience Africa than here - to walk along side a mighty baobab; to mokoro silently though the deltas reeds; to weave between a mosaic of islands, or to fly over the intertwining elephant paths... It is here the wilderness is felt.
