Borrowing from Nelson Mandela’s autobiography “Long Walk to Freedom”, this program visits the places that shaped Mandela’s life and in the end, shaped South Africa. Private touring includes visits to Soweto, Mandela’s family village in Qunu and Robben Island. You visit a safari camp in a private Game Reserve near Kruger National Park where you will participate in animal conservation efforts.

  • Day 01+02
  • Depart from the USA on your overnight flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel located in the suburb of Kempton Park. Overnight African Rock.

  • Day 03
  • Today you will have a private tour of Johannesburg including Soweto, Sandton and the Alexandra township. Overnight African Rock.

  • Day 04-06
  • This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled inter-Africa flight to Hoedspruit. On arrival, you will met and transferred by vehicle to your Private Game Lodge. Activities include morning and afternoon/night game drives. Day 05 enjoy a visit to the Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Center. Day 06 you will have an afternoon visit to the Mapusha Weavers & Pre-School. Tour the village and visit the local orphanage. 3 nights Tanda Tula Safari Camp.

  • Day 07
  • This morning you will be transferred by vehicle to the Hoedspruit airport. Board your inter-Africa flight to East London. On arrival you will be met and depart for a full-day tour to Mthatha. Check into your hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight Country Lodge.

  • Day 08
  • The day starts with a visit to the Mandela museum. This is a very special experience. One is taken on the "long walk to freedom" by means of an exhibition of audiovisual and photographic material. There are two halls in which all the personal and state gifts given to Nelson Mandela during his presidency are housed. From here you will go to Qunu, the village where he spent his youth. You will explore the village and wander over the hills where he tended cattle as a young herd boy. Mandela has chosen to build his present home at Qunu and although this is not open to visitors, it can be viewed from the outside. Overnight Ocean View Hotel.

  • Day 09+10
  • This morning depart Coffee Bay and visit the Hole in the Wall. The Hole in the Wall at Coffee Bay is a unique structure with a huge detached cliff that has a giant opening carved through its centre by the waves. From here you are transferred to East London Airport to catch your scheduled inter-Africa flight to Cape Town. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Next morning you will be picked up at your hotel to join in a full day Uthando Cultural Field Trip (this is a private departure). 2 nights The Cape Cadogan.

  • Day 11+12
  • Visit Mavis at the Injongo Crèche in Mfuleni township. Sponsored by Matchbox, which works hand-in-hand with township communities to improve existing Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers called 'crèches' and help them to achieve the standards required for government subsidies. You will have a private half-day township tour including a visit to the crèche where 70+ children are taken care of on a daily basis. Next morning you are collected from your hotel and driven to the Robben Island ferry departure point at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Your driver will accompany you on the ferry, which takes approximately 25 minutes to reach the island located in Table Bay (seen in background of photo). 2 nights The Cape Cadogan.

  • Today you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight to Johannesburg. Onward connecting international flight. Welcome home!
