A deluxe lodge or tented camp, almost all with swimming pools, excellent food and service, large nicely appointed rooms or tents with comfortable beds and tasteful decor; most of the lodges have air-conditioning and the tents are usually fan-cooled.
Volcanoes Virunga is set on a hillside with breathtaking views of the Virunga Volcanoes. The main area has an expansive lounge area with wrap-around verandah, bar and dining room. Ten stone bandas feature en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and large showers with hot and cold water. The drive to the park gate to check-in for gorilla trekking takes about 45 minutes.
Aside from gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, you can climb the Visoke or Karisimbi Volcanoes, track the golden monkey, visit Dian Fossey's grave at Karisoke or go for gentle strolls around the picturesque villages near the lakes.
