Chief’s Island is also home to the luxurious Sanctuary Chief’s Camp

Botswana will be brought alive in living rooms in episode 5 of Sir David Attenborough’s Planet Earth II, with the show airing in various countries throughout 2017. Focusing on grasslands, the episode features the remote Chief’s Island – where prides of lions have learned to swim in their bid for survival.

It’s no surprise that the location was chosen for the show. Botswana offers some of the finest game viewing in the world due to the incredible concentration and diversity of mammals and wildlife. It is well-known for its large herds of elephants, who featured in the original Planet Earth series from 2006. This series will see the show focus on a different side of the Okavango Delta, one that will no doubt stir a frenzy of interest in the region.

Focusing on Chief’s Island, located in the Okavango Delta’s Moremi Game Reserve, the show’s content is very fitting for the area’s reputation as the ‘predator capital of Africa’. Wildlife and wilderness is found here in abundance, with the grasslands and waterways creating a haven for wild dog, leopard, elephant, rhino, and – of course – the swimming lions. Chief’s Island is also home to the luxurious Sanctuary Chief’s Camp.
