10 Day | Spectacular Primates of Uganda

On arrival in Entebbe, you will be met and transferred by vehicle to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight Hotel No. 5.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the domestic airport for your scheduled charter flight to Kasese aistrip. Upon arrival, you will meet your guide and drive to the national park, passing through picturesque tea plantations along the way. Overnight Primate Lodge.

An early start to meet your guide and enter the forest in search of chimpanzees and ten other primate species including red colobus monkey, blues, red tails and grey-cheeked mangabey. Continue on a second chimp trek this afternoon. Overnight Primate Lodge.

Depart the lodge this morning, and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (approx 5-6 hour drive, not including game viewing), which is an unremitting belt of montane forest that is the home to mountain gorillas and other rare primates. Enjoy the evening at leisure. Overnight Mahogany Springs Lodge or Buhoma Lodge.

This morning you will depart on your first gorilla trek taking a picnic lunch with you. The hike usually begins at 8:00am where you depart with eight trekkers total plus your guides, armed rangers and any porters that you hire to carry your backpacks. Your trek begins as your guide looks for nests used by the gorillas the night before and then follow their signs (usually 1-2 hours). Once you find them you strictly spend one hour watching and photographing.  After lunch you walk back down to Park base (2-3 hours).  You should be back at camp by 3:00-4:00pm.  However there are days when the trek can be longer! Today, you will walk from Buhoma sector to Nkuringo sector. Escorted by Ranger guides, you will enjoy a nature walk through the forest where you will take the Kashasha River Trail (17km, 7hrs walk) Along the way you will see monkeys, Duikers, bush pigs, various bird species and butterflies. Enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure. Overnight Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge.

This morning you will have your second gorilla trek in the Nkuringo sector. Optional Gorilla Habituation Experience. Overnight Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge.

After breakfast, you will drive to Gahinga National Park. It protects the rare mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forests, and it is also an important habitat for the endangered golden monkey. As well as being important for wildlife, the park also has a huge cultural significance, in particular for the indigenous Batwa pygmies. On arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation and once you have settled in, you will have a community visit to the Batwa village where you will have an experience of their way of life. Today you will go to track the golden monkeys in the bamboo forest. Overnight Mount Gahinga Lodge.

This morning you will have breakfast in camp. Transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled charter flight to Entebbe. On arrival you will be met and driven to your hotel where a dayroom has been reserved for you. Enjoy lunch at the hotel and a change to freshen up before transferring to the airport for your onward travel (to be determined). Dayroom: Hotel No. 5.
