Itinerary Description

On these special AAC Signature departures – experience the thrill of gorilla treks in Bwindi, Uganda & Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. Begin your primate experience with chimp trekking in Kibale Forest. Game viewing in Uganda is a hidden delight with game drive opportunities looking for wildlife at Queen Elizabeth National Park. Uganda, "The Pearl of Africa", is situated astride the Equator and boasts a wide and diverse landscape - from rugged, snow-capped mountains to the vast flat lands. After the release of the feature film, Gorillas in the Mist, about the late Dian Fossey’s pioneering work habituating the gorillas, interest in gorilla trekking reached new heights in Rwanda. Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01

Arrive Entebbe

Arrive Entebbe, Uganda. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Hotel No.5.

Day 02+03

Kibale

This morning you will board a scheduled charter flight to Kasese airstrip, where you will meet your guide and vehicle and drive to Kibale Forest (1.5 hours). You will pass through forest and tea plantations. On Day 03, you will depart on morning and afternoon chimp treks. The chimp walk is on well-marked trails in this beautiful rain forest where there is very little undergrowth due to the full canopy overhead. Even though considered easy, it is advisable to wear trekking boots and have rain gear available. Lasting for three to five hours the main objective is to see chimps in their natural habitat 2 nights Ndali Lodge (Feb departure) or Primate Lodge (Jul/Sep departures).

Day 04

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (3-4 hours) following the Ruwenzori Mountain Range. Enjoy a late afternoon private boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. Overnight Mweya Lodge (Feb departure) or Elephant Plains Lodge (Jul/Sep departures).

Day 05+06

Ishasha Region

Following breakfast, enjoy a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. In the afternoon depart to your camp in the Ishasha Region, enjoying a game drive enroute. Day 07 – Enjoy a day of game viewing in the Ishasha region of Queen Elizabeth National Park. 2 nights Ishasha Wilderness Camp.

Day 07

Bwindi

Enjoy an early morning game drive and then continue by road to your camp in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Overnight Buhoma Lodge.

Day 08+09

Bwindi

This morning you will depart on your first gorilla trek taking a picnic lunch with you. What a thrill to get up close with “Gorillas in the Mist” in the Buhoma region of Bwindi Forest! Your viewing of the gorillas will be limited to a maximum of only one hour. One must be prepared for a strenuous hike of 1-6 hours each way; however 2-3 hours is more usual. A further day at leisure to either participate in an additional gorilla trek or enjoy an other local activities (additional costs apply). 2 nights Buhoma Lodge.

Day 10

Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast you will be transferred to Kisoro, via Cyanika where you will clear customs and continue into Rwanda and onto your lodge situated adjacent to Volcanoes National Park. Overnight Amakoro Songa.

Day 11

Volcanoes National Park

This morning you will be transferred to the park gate at Kinigi for your second gorilla trek in Volcanoes. Here you will meet your tracker and enjoy a further exhilarating encounter with the mountain gorillas. Following your trek you will return to your lodge. Enjoy the evening at leisure. Overnight Amakoro Songa.

Day 12

Kigali

This morning you will have a tour of Genocide Museum and local craft market. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. A dayroom has been reserved for you until this evening’s departure. This evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departing flight. Dayroom: Kigali Serena Hotel.
